HAL is often listed as one of the greatest movie villains of all time. I figured I should have one. I mean, what could go wrong? My HAL is built from scratch from measurements of the screen-used HAL. He's solid – build from an MDF core with real aluminum trim. The black anodized aluminum face is actually a vinyl product. And the vintage speaker grill is another 3D print from a Nicholas Otte on thingiverse. The central lens (a camera lens on the real prop) was also a 3D printed from a file by Nick.

 

Internally, HAL has a micro computer loaded with several of the best HAL lines from the film. A small button cycles trough them.
